Description
Yamaha G170a Classical Guitar Made in Japan (Nippon Gakki) between 1969 and 1972. This item is obviously used, but in excellent cosmetic shape and fully functional.Solid spruce top, laminate rosewood back and sides, nato neck, Indian rosewood fretboard and bridge. String length 658mm.
Frets are in good shape, with a bit of shrinkage in relation to the fretboard, but there's no adverse effect when playing. I have set the action quite low (12th fret 1st string at a bit over 3mm) with a bone saddle blank i shaped to optimize tuning, but will include the original saddle in the chipboard case.
As expected for an instrument of this age, there is some hairline separation around the bindings, but everything is holding together well.
Last two photos attempt to show small scratches on the top (photo 4), a hairline separation at the heel, a small scratch on the back, and a slight "wrinkle" along the middle of the back that can be seen from the waving of the back center seam (all in the last photo).
The chipboard case (which came with it when I bought it) is rather flimsy, and ill-fitting, so the guitar will be shimmed with bubble wrap inside the case, and the case will be shimmed inside a cardboard box for safe shipping. I will loosen the new strings a bit to avoid breakage during shipping.
